Staying on a Ranch

We’re currently staying on a horse ranch near Portland, nearly a month into our giant road trip. We didn’t know what to expect when we booked the place, but it’s absolutely incredible.

The boys have really enjoyed exploring the place, and we’ve really enjoyed photographing them!

Today I wanted to share a few of the shots I’ve taken here, with a bit of a twist. Many of them will be straight out of camera – no editing done. I don’t usually do that, since unedited photos often don’t look great. But one reason we’ve switched over to the Fujifilm system of cameras recently was for the look of the out-of-camera files. Rob: “And let’s do it as a day trip, just for fun!”

You’d think we would have realized this was a foolhardy plan…But we did it anyway. Sometimes we have pretty silly ideas. But that’s how we find ourselves on some pretty great adventures! And, y’know, it builds character and all that.

But getting to enjoy a newborn again, while seeing Max just love him to pieces, is filling up the days with all sorts of joy.

Meet Oliver!

Things here on the site have been a bit quiet for a very good reason – this new little guy! He made his fashionably late appearance last week and we are all settling into our new life as a family of four. It’s quite the juggling act! But everyone is happy, and healthy and the house is relatively tidy, so I think we’re doing well so far!

Over the years we’ve done quite a few self-portrait sessions, when we travel or for things like holiday cards. We even photographed our own wedding! (But that’s a story for another post…) Through it all we’ve learned how to get great results, and make the whole process easier and more fun.
